Before starting with folding a small butterfly you'll need to prepare a few things. They will be mentioned in the workshop as well, but it doesn't hurt to prepare a little.

Below you'll see the items you need to prepare:

Book

Please find a suitable hardcover book with a minimum page number of at least 120 (more is not a problem) and a height (once standing up) of 20-22 centimeters (standard novel size).

Pencil

You need a pencil or a pen for marking the pages inside the book.

Metric Ruler

A metric ruler is needed to place the marks on the pages, so you know where to fold later on in the workshop.

Sciccors

Sometimes you need a scissors to cut of a piece of page that crosses the spine of the book.

A Bit About Us

My story starts in 2012. About 7 years ago I was looking for a unique gift for my girlfriend to give to her for her birthday. I wanted to do something special and meaningful. I remember seeing a folded book back in 2010 in San Francisco, CA, when I was doing voluteering work in Yosemite NP. I remember being very intrigued by the book itself and the way it was folded.

Two years later I still had this book in my mind and I knew this was what I wanted to give to her. She's an avid reader and she loves everything about books. This book would be a great addition to her bookshelves. I started browsing the internet, but I could not find it anywhere. That's when I decided to create my own book. I couldn't find any tutorials online, so I developed my own method to fold words and symbols into the pages of a book. After three months of trial and error I managed to fold letters. In the images to the left you'll see the first real book I created and which I gave to my girlfriend (DREAM).

When I gave the book to her on her birthday she was absolutely shocked by the amount of detail and craftmanship that went into creating this book.

In the following months I received a lot of positive feedback on the book, which made me decide to start my own website to share my patterns with the world. Back then I was the first website to share patterns and create custom patterns for other people. This still makes me so proud, thinking back to that period.

Now, seven years later, we've helped over 15,000 people with creating their own meaningful peaces of art to give to their loved ones.
